You could possibly read it as a stand-alone, but it will be incredibly confusing and you'll not understand a lot, and you'll miss a lot too. It's a good series, and definately wasn't a hardship for me to read the first 5 lol. If you like the author or pnr, you'll enjoy this series. Its a very new and interesting take on angels and vampires, and set in a kind of parallel universe, since things (minus the angels and vampires lol) are the same as they are in our world. (less)

✜ Raphael is a-changing and things are a-happening...are they related?

✜ Caliane is a bit better but the jury is still out on her.

✜ Some major events are one that is being called "The Falling" and another having to do with a disease that infects vampires to just name a couple. There are some pretty good ideas who the culprits are that instigated them. And I liked how everyone worked together to figure things out, fix things and then fight together.

✜ Eve, Elena's half sister, is having problems and reaches out to her. This leads to some confrontations with Jeffrey but also some insights come out of it.

✜ We get to know another Guild Hunter named Ransom better. (I love his last name - Winterwolf)

✜ A lot more page time with Aodhan and Illium aka Bluebell and Sparkle. **and don't get your hopes up regarding that little scene...I heard that's a big negative**

✜ Love Izak and how he has a crush on Elena.

✜ Also intriguing developments with Vivek.

✜ Can't stand Michaela. Thank goodness for Raphael's powers.

✜ And the situation with Tasha ~ that could've gone bad. I loved how Raphael handled it and it was great getting his POV on things.

✜ I seriously cannot remember there being so much gore in this series. Some of the descriptions were really awful!

✜ New favorite character ~ Naasir! LOL...what in the heck is he?

✜ The "big battle" was pretty epic however, I did think the actual end was a bit too easy. The Legion is really fascinating...can't wait to read more.

description

✜ And one last thing about Raphael. What originally drew me to him was his arrogance and his power but I love that he has evolved and that he has evolved with Elena. He never underestimates her and he never takes their relationship for granted. I LOVE when he would stay with her so she could sleep and he would watch over her! ~sigh~

✜ And I heard a rumor that the next book is going to be about Ashwini and Janvier...love that Cajun! But it's weird since they already had a novella in Angel's Pawn. Either way, I'm still looking forward to reading more about them!

"Raphael, in case you're getting ideas—I won't be this civilized if you decide you need a concubine. In fact, it's a good bet I'll turn homicidal.

He didn't look up from his conversation with Astaad as he said, A pity, in that cool "Archangel" tone of his. I will now have to ask the pilot to empty the hold of my chosen females.

We're going to have to talk about this new sense of humor of yours."

4 to 4 ½ AMAZING Stars

Well…I'm all caught up. DANG!!! This book is my favorite of the series thus far. It's absolutely fantastic! I would have given it 5 stars but there was a bit too much action fighting toward the end for my taste. I understand this is Urban Fantasy and that's to be expected, but, for me, it was just too much. I ended up skimming a few chapters because of it. Still, I highly recommend this series. I've had a blast reading it (I actually listened to it).

Another great story from this awesome author. I think this is the story and action that we've all been waiting for since the first book. I really enjoyed the whole story. Not even Raphael's ex was able to ruin that for me, although she did get on my nerves. I felt the same way Elena did and I wouldn't mind, if she did do the things she wanted to do to this 'past friend' of Raphael's. But anyway, I loved that there was truly nothing that could even remotely harm their bond and their love. They are a super couple and there is simply nothing that could bring them apart. I wished we would see more of Bluebell and Sparkle but there is still hope that they get their own stories. :) ...more

Oh my gosh, Nalini Singh!! Girl's got some serious skills in making me feel the beautiful relationship between the two main characters in this series. I actually find myself smiling when I am reading, and feeling all swoony over the beautiful words.

In this book we have a bunch of crazy things happening on Earth that are a sign of very bad things to come. Things such as birds falling from the sky, the river turning to blood, and blood raining down from the sky. Of course, this is New York, and it takes a hella lot more than raining blood to get to jaded Manhattanites.

"Dmitri says recordings of the event are already trending on media sites worldwide."

"Right, what was I thinking?" Elena threw up her hands. "That New Yorkers would actually, I don't know, hide or something else sane when the sky was raining freaking blood?"

Haha! Yeah, right! I was in a giant earthquake 22 years ago and it was insane - the damage, lives lost, everything... But, dammit, there were guys selling t-shirts that said, "I survived the Northridge Earthquake" on every street corner the very next day. Never underestimate the power of the human spirit - especially when it comes to making a buck.

Out of curiosity, I Googled to see if there were pics of the one I specifically remembered, and here it is. ;-)

Along with all of the strange events, the angels are also getting increases in power. Raphael is trying to reject the power that keeps trying to come to him because too much power makes the angels go crazy. And, crazy angels have a tendency to become homicidal killing machines from above. He wants to avoid that...

But, other angels are not avoiding their new powers and Raphael's enemy decides it is time for a full-scale war of biblical proportions. Angel-fight!

Yeah, you do not want to be under an angel-fight! You'll be pulling feathers out of your hair for weeks. It's like sand, after the beach...

The characters in this series are so complex and intriguing. After all of these books, I feel like I know them and I'm desperate for some of them to have their own love stories.

What adorable fan art!! They look so cute!

There is one scene in this book between two of the male angels that was so touching that I can't wait for the next book just to see where it goes. I'm not hoping for an Aodhan/Bluebell ship - although I wish - but to see the continuation of the healing that Illium offers Aodhan.

For anyone who hasn't read this series. If you like PNR, you have got to try this one! There are lots of books out, so you don't have to wait forever for the next one for a long time. Go, go read the first one now and let me know what you think! ;-)

Complex, unique, lyrical, beautiful, brutal and almost haunting, Mrs. Singh world is full of emotions and twists. Excellent and consistent story, unparalleled world-building. I could (and I want to) read 12 more books about Raphael and Elena and not be disappointed even for a page.

Alas, I can't reveal much about the actual plot without spoiling it for someone who is about to start this series. Only that he or she must do so, NOW! It has it all... Intrigue, passion, sensuality and power, all interwoven in what came to be my favourite series.

My only complaint? It's going to be awhile to revisit the all-powerful Archangel and his Guild Hunter Consort that makes him more mortal.
Lijuan has a few wounds to lick and more monstrosities to think of. And they do deserve a private dance.

description

Moreover, i can feel it... Something sparkly and something blue, are getting anxious. They have some great stories to tell and they have been waiting for too long.
So, Aodhan or Ilium? My bet is on Bluebell. He is too pretty to patiently wait his turn. Not unless his Archangel demands it!

5 Fabulous Shiny Stars!!

Loved this story, and I REALLY like where the author is going with the series.

The writing, storyline, and characters were BRILLIANT!

I really enjoyed getting to know a little more about Aodhan, Illiam, and Naasir (even though I'm not quite sure what Naasir is).

Once again Raphael and Elana are passionate, charismatic, strong, stubborn, and PERFECT for one another.

Fans of the "Guild Hunter" series will not be disappointed!

Beklediğimize değdi açıkçası. Bayıldım. bir ara dmitri'ye katılıyordum neredeyse , elenanın raphael'i zayıflattığını , yaklaşan savaşta onu geri bıraktığını falan. ama elena raphael'in asıl güç kaynağı bencede. Archangel's Legion wasn't quite as engrossing as I thought it'd be. I still enjoyed it but in comparison to earlier Elena/Raphael books it was lacking in originality, excitement, and intriguing characters.

-Certain parts of the plot felt quite recycled such as Elena's Guild Hunter duties and her investigation into what was making all the vampires sick/die - I've read that sort of plot in countless other PNR/UF books so it didn't captivate me much.
I did enjoy all the stuff that was happening in regard to the archangel war, and the different disasters (birds falling from the sky/the Hudson River turning bloody red/the crazy weather) that indicated the start of the Cascade (a confluence of time/certain critical events that lead to a surge of power in the Cadre/archangels — so basically already powerful archangels gain new powers and become even more powerful).

-What's what: Elena still getting used to being an angel, her and Raphael's relationship going strong, Raphael's city under attack, angels falling from the sky, and vamps infected with tainted blood. Elena and co also have to deal with the Cascade - Raphael is getting weird new powers, as are other archangels. There's also a war brewing between Raphael and creepy-crazy-zombie-making-weirdo-who-thinks-she's-a-god-but-is-actually-an-archangel, Lijuan.

-Elena was kind of a Mary Sue. Everyone pretty much loved her or was in awe of her brilliance - I was sick of all the different angels/vampires thinking she was the best thing ever. She did very little to gain their love, respect, and approval — she didn't deserve that level of acceptance. They didn't need to be dicks to her, but I would have preferred them not worshipping her when she hadn't done enough to warrant that level of adoration.
Elena's issues with her douchey dad and dead mum/sisters has gotten boring. All she did was whine, and moan, and have nightmares about them. Which would be fine if she hadn't been like that in the first book — where's the character growth?! It was just the same shit that was going on in book 1. Yea, there was a little bit of development with her dad but it wasn't nowhere enough for my liking.
Elena was a cow to her half-sister, Amy. She barely paid any attention to her, she only cared about her other half-sister, Eve or whatever her name was. Because Eve had the Hunter gene, she always checked up on her and did all sorts for her but poor Amy got ignored. I hope Amy tells Elena what a rubbish sister she is to her.

-Raphael turned into such a Gary Stu. He used to be much more compelling, there was nothing interesting about his character in this one — probably because he suffered from speshul snowflake syndrome. Him becoming more powerful, gaining freaky new angelic powers, and being the bestest archangel of them all, didn't equal a personality… If anything, it just made him more dull. I really didn't like him. He had it all — he was the archangel of New York, he was the youngest ever angel to become an archangel, he had super speshul powers and was the only one that could hurt the bad guy (Lijuan), he had the Seven who were loyal to him and who were the bestest-most-strongest angels ever, his people all loved/respected him, his mum worshipped him, and Elena was madly in love with him. Sure, he had a bit of a crappy past when his mum went crazy and tried to kill him but in the present, he had everything going for him. Okay, he was at war with Lijuan but that was his only obstacle. He had the most important things in his life — love, power, loyalty, money, friendship, respect, family. He didn't have any real personal difficulties, he had it all, and that made him bland.

-There was something so smug about Raphael/Elena's relationship.

-Everything was written so dramatically… Elena's issues with her past, Raphael's issues with his past, Elena's investigation, Aodhan and Illium's tortured past, the angels being injured, the vampires who were diseased, and the war at he end — if everything is meant to be fucked up and bad, then nothing comes across as fucked up and bad. So yea, because every situation/person's past was horrifying/upsetting/tortured it just took the horror/gravitas out of everything.

-I rolled my eyes at the 'young' angels who died and the supposed horror of them dying so young when they were actually centuries old.

-Every one of Raphael's Seven had deep seated issues/scars, and a horrific tortured past of some sort. It was ridiculous.

-I was annoyed with the cliched jealous ex (Tasha) who wanted the hero again. I'm sick of this trope, its in most books I read. Most women don't actually want to get back with their ex, so I don't understand why every ex-girlfriend of a hero is so desperate to get back with them, especially when they're with someone else.

-I loathed Elena's dad, Jeffrey, he was a wanker. He thought it was a cool to act like a complete dick to his daughters because of something that happened decades ago — he saw his Guild Hunter mum killed by vampires, and that was why he was such a fucker to Elena. So instead of talking to Elena about why he hated her being a Hunter, he instead threw her out when she was a teenager, acted like he didn't love her, and alternated between ignoring her and being a bastard to her for a decade… He destroyed his relationship with her over something that happened when he was 4 years old. Ugh, it was disgusting that he was so willing to forever ruin his bond with Elena all because he couldn't confide in her. He was a rubbish dad, he was happy to fuck up Elena's life instead of confront his own fears. He put himself above his daughter. He was a fucking bastard.

-Why the hell were ALL of the female Cadre so fucked up? Every single one of them had serious issues:
Michaela: jealous of other females, selfish, cruel, lies about being pregnant.
Lijuan: creating an army of undead, crazy, wants to take over the world.
Neha: tortured her niece, questionable sanity, filled with hatred.
Favashi: has a cruel streak, is petty, plays around with men's emotions.
Whereas most of the male Cadre (Titus, Astaad, Raphael, Elijah) were decent archangels… They were all honourable, intelligent, and respected.
So basically women in power end up fucked up because it's unnatural for them to have power, they become corrupted because their weak minds can't handle too much power. Whilst most men are able to handle it and thus won't abuse their power. Ugh.

-I liked the addition of The Legion, although they did come across as a bit of a deus ex machinas when they turned up in the war.
What the hell was the Primary talking about? What's an Aiclair? Does it just mean soulmates? If so, then I don't see why it's being kept such a mystery since it's no secret that Elena/Raphael are meant to be.

-The ending was really action packed. The war between Raphael and Lijuan was the most entertaining part, everything before then was kind of slow and blah.
I'm guessing Lijuan isn't dead, I'm sure she'll come back and cause loads of chaos again.

-Beth was dumb taking back Harrison, he obviously didn't love her if he turned into a vampire without knowing whether she would be able to as well. He doesn't deserve to be her husband or the dad to her child.

-I noticed a heated moment of sorts between Illium and Aodhan. I'm not sure if it was meant to be romantic or not, it wasn't very clear.

-I think I want to read Aodhan's story most of all. I'm no longer interested in Illium or Venom, Venom is too much of a manslut and Illium keeps banging on about that human he once loved and it's pretty clear that she was the love of his life, anyone he loves after her will just be him settling and yea, that's not romantic.

All in all, this was a bit of a disappointment. There were certain parts of the plot that were enjoyable, and the romance wasn't completely terrible, but Elena and Raphael were no longer endearing to me, they turned into boring speshul snowflakes. Hopefully, the next Elena/Raphael book won't be as much of a let down.

Just when I think Nalini Singh can't possibly outdo herself, she proves me wrong. From the earliest pages in this book, until I turned the very last one, I was on the edge of my seat - unable to think of anything but needing to know what happened next.

I'm not even sure how to review this book without fan-girling, I loved it so much. I've read the whole thing twice now and done scenes even more.

This is the fourth full-length novel focusing on Raphael and Elena - and despite my thoughts that their story was pretty much told in Archangel's Consort, there's still plenty to explore as evidenced here. I've always loved the relationship dynamic between Elena and Raphael. There's such a huge power differential and, unlike a lot of books that will just gloss that over and make it seem like it's dealt with, Nalini Singh continues to actually deal with it. Raphael is a centuries old Archangel - one of the most powerful beings in the world - and Elena is a new-immortal, with only twenty-some years of life behind her. That alone will create a gulf that a lot of people might not be able to overcome. Yet, Raphael and Elena are continuously negotiating their boundaries...in a smart, intelligent, caring way - they talk about it. When something comes up that is going to press up against Elena, potentially leaving her in a very large power deficit, she finds the words to discuss it with Raphael and he listens. They may not always resolve it satisfactorily for them both right away, but they're always working towards that. That, right there, shows their love for each other so clearly to me.

The overarcing plot of the book, I'll admit, had me in tears more than once. The first scene with angels falling from the sky was heart-wrenching, the aftermath as much so. It's clear for most of the book that things are coming to a head; there are overt signs of war, and insidious signs of something else - something that's nearly stalking Raphael, and we're not quite sure what it is. It's a challenge for him, though, that's for sure - and again, it's Elena that helps keep him grounded, a little bit mortal, if you will. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book; I had to know what was going on. The last 100 or so pages are so intense that I stayed up until 2am just to finish; I immediately turned to the beginning and started again so I could take the journey a little more leisurely.

Also, we finally get to learn more about Naasir - and can I just say what he manages to do with just two other people in the climactic scene was amazing, and made me grin completely unexpectedly. Raphael's Seven, and Elena's friends play important roles in this novel, and as always I'm left wanting more. They're, each and every one, fantastic.

Archangel's Legion is a thrill ride of a novel, heart-wrenching, exciting, beautiful, romantic and absolutely game-changing. I was blown away, and I can not wait to see what's next!

"..."My mother," he said, "has invited us to a ball."
Elena pulled a blade from one of the butter-soft forearm sheaths that had been a gift from Raphael. "Excuse me while I stab myself in the eyes-and disembowel myself while I'm at it." ..."

We are back with The Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael and it is one of the reasons I am becoming a bigger fan of Nalini with every passing book. She does not stop at the moment when a loving couple hooks up and where usually fairy-tales say "And they lived Happily Ever After!". She is not satisfied with that, because, just like us, she knows very well there is life after the moment of falling in love and committing to a relationship. There is work! Noooo, don't take that as me saying there is tedium. Maybe, at times, but hopefully rarely, there is that too. But mostly, there is the long period of living and caring for someone else as much or maybe more than you ever did for yourself. There is the period of adjustment having someone in your space at all times, having to consider their wants, needs or dislikes, having to adjust to what matters to you and what you could leave behind in order to smooth the edges of daily struggles and making your couple a true unit, ready to stand together against the difficulties the rest of the world could bring against you. End even those seemingly mundane struggles, Nalini makes into a fun and enjoyable read, and this is what I call a storyteller:):):)

"... "I'm the hunter," Elena reminded him. "I should go first."
"Of course you may go first. When I am dead." ..."

The overall plot had to do with a very disgusting and virulent disease taking hold in the Vampire population, birds and Angels falling broken from the skies, surges of power driving Archangels mad and powerful, Lijuan being bet-shit crazy and going more so by declaring war on Raphael and his territory, and all type of other destructive forces, all being a result of the Cascade of Power being unleashed on the World! In one word - a tone of action, blood, war and drama - what more can a girl want????

"... "The Cascade happens and Neha calls fire and ice, Elena said into his mind at the same instant. Titus moves the earth, Astaad the sea, while creepy Lijuan brings the dead back to life. Meanwhile, my gorgeous archangel, not satisfied with, I don't know, shooting lightning bolts or something, actually taps into the energy of the planet and calls an army of bogeymen from the bottom of the ocean.
Of course you do.

The dry commentary made him wonder how he'd ever walked through life without the wit and laughter of his hunter by his side. He could no longer imagine such a cold, remote existence, the idea of it spawning an immediate repudiation in his bloodstream." ..."

We also got to delve deeper into Elena's family dynamics and how her little sister can wrap a many centuries old vampire butler around her little finger:):):) Also, we met some more of the faithful Seven, whom Raphael's mom very appropriately calls "The Menagerie":) And some very gray, very odd creatures are introduced, which gave the name of this book and despite of making the ending very much a "lucky coincidence" of an outcome, I think will make this Guild Hunter World even more interesting. Reading this book was so much fun, it felt like it flew by and I was left craving more!!! An absolute MUST READ for the fans of the series!!!

I wish you all Happy Reading and may you also never get enough of the literary adventures of your favorite heroes!!!!

After a few books with other characters/couples in the series I was a little sad to be back with Elena and Raphael. After a few books with other characters/couples in the series I was a little sad to be back with Elena and Raphael. It isn't that I don't like them….I do, they are okay, but I feel like this has been set up in normal PNR fashion to explore multiple relationship beginnings and so I was looking forward to reading someone else's story.

Here is the problem I have with Raphael and Elena sometimes. One minute they are great and having sex and everything is pretty wonderful and then there is some silly and I do mean silly argument that comes a little out of nowhere. Or Raphael becomes an arrogant ass and decides he knows all being like 1000 so Elena should just suck it up and why are you still upset over this. It gets a little dismissive and sometimes doesn't mesh with that 'we are so in love' thing they have going on.

However, the good news is that the overall plot line progresses well. Overall I am enjoying how it is taking time for Elena to come into her power and like us she isn't quite sure what being Consort really means. So we are learning with her how to incorporate more and more of Angel life and politics into what she is doing. The few big reveals in this book like the power that is trying to overtake Raphael was interesting and I really liked a few of the developments there.

But the best parts in this book for me rarely had anything to do with Elena and Raphael together. Most of those had to do with the side characters like:

Elena and Ransom just interacting –

Do you scent the same things I do?"
Ransom made a face when she described what she'd picked up from the passing vamp. "Yeah, except I don't say shit like 'cinnamon spice with a hint of burnt oak.' I say 'dude smells like an electrified tree with a side of doughnut topping."

The revelations of Elena's Father and her heritage. While I still think he is a totally jerk at least I understand his motivations a little better.

Naasir though…he is a creepshow I want way more info on.

"A long-dead angel who thought to own me," was his enigmatic answer, the silver in his eyes almost liquid. "I tore out his throat. After that, I ate his liver and his heart. The remaining internal organs weren't as tasty so I gave them to his other creatures."
Elena's hand tightened on the handle of the knife, conscious Naasir carried gleaming blades of his own in the sheaths strapped to his arms. "I wouldn't think a vampire who killed an angel would be permitted to live."
A slow, feral smile. "I didn't say I killed him."

Ah and Galen the weapons master looks like he might have some squishy parts somewhere after all.
Over time, it has become a tradition—Galen is always the one who gives basic flight instruction to the babes, and some, like Izak, never stop training with him.'
The idea of Galen, with his wings akin to a northern harrier's, leading a squadron of babies—not all of whom could fly exactly straight—had Elena shaking her head. 'I'm sorry, I need to see to believe this. It's like you just told me the sky turns purple every Wednesday."

There was a huge battle at the end of this and I'm not going to lie I got a little bored with it. They are outnumbered, there is no hope How will they ever win. Stuff like that….but then something pretty awesome happened then I wasn't so mad the battle raged for so long.

Overall I've liked the stories with the other couples a little more. But this did have some very valuable developments moving on in the story and so it was worth putting up with some random angst thrown in.

"Eternity would mean nothing without you. For no power on this earth would I trade my Elena."

When angels start falling from the sky and vampires start dying from an unknown disease, Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux and her Archangel consort Raphael needs to find out whether the impending Cascade could be responsible, or if a more sinister enemy is at work.

With the Tower's defences low and time running out, Elena and Raphael find themselves fighting desperately to keep their territory from the hands of enemy archangels. And when lakes turn crimson and Raphael becomes the focus of an evil power, Raphael needs to decide what is most important: power or his heart.

"Your love is a fierce thing, Elena, a thing with claws and teeth when it comes to protecting those you claim."

I freaking love this world! Elena is such an amazing heroine, so strong and kickass, but also so vulnerable when it comes to the people she loves. She would do anything for those she cares about. I love watching Elena grow stronger as an angel, but what I love most is her mortal heart, the way she cares about doing what is right, and treating people fairly. And it's fun seeing her learn what it means to be Raphael's consort, and how amazing she was with the injured angels, making sure they were cared for. (view spoiler)[And the fact that she recruited her first member for her Guard was so awesome :-D (hide spoiler)]

"Without you, I might one day have become another Lijuan." Scowling, she would've shaken her head, but he stopped her with a grip on her jaw. "No, Elena. This truth I must confront—in me lives more power than any other angel my age has ever had. That much power changes a man, and it changed me."

I love Raphael, who is still just as arrogant as always, his love for Elena has definitely rounded out his rough edges, but he still as lethal and ruthless as he needs to be. I love how protective and possessive he is with Elena, and how he always knows just how far to push her when her demons are trying to get the better of her.

His thumb caressing her cheekbone, his face close to her own. "You have never, and will never, weaken me. You make me a better man and a better leader than I would've ever been without you." He shook his head. "You said once that you couldn't do this without me. Well, I can't do this without you, Guild Hunter."

*swoon* The relationship between Elena and Raphael just keep getting better and stronger, and it really is pretty amazing to see how they settle their differences, and how they value their relationship. I love how passionate and romantic their romance is, and the sexy times is so damn hot!! I adore them together :-D

Elena's father Jeffrey is such an asshole, and I still hate him. However we actually learn more about him and his tragic past, which made me sympathise with him, although just a little.

"Sparkle and Bluebell, nice."
"Never," Aodhan said, hands stubbornly on the girder, "ever repeat that. Illium seems to have forgotten I promised to separate his tongue from his mouth should he utter it again in his immortal lifetime."
"You have to catch me first," Illium taunted . .

I love Raphael's Seven, and Aodhan and Illium are favorites of mine. Their friendship is so beautiful, and I'm so happy that Aodhan seems to be improving a bit after 200 years of being so damaged that even his best friend couldn't touch him. I really hope each of them get their own HEA's soon.

Elena made a squeaking sound as Naasir nipped her sharply on the chin. "I've decided I won't eat you," he said, putting her down on her feet before turning to Raphael.

And we got to see a lot more of Naasir, who is so damn intriguing :-D I really can't wait to find out what he is.

"We will not be intimidated, and we will not surrender. We did not begin this war, but we will end it!"

The plot was FANTASTIC! All the archangels gaining new powers, and trying to find out who was targeting Raphael's territory. Alliances were formed, and I must say I was extremely happy with the ones Raphael chose, and then there is the new power Raphael received, and it was AMAZING!! I love the fact that his love for Elena, which is seen by most as a weakness, is actually making him more powerful. And the final battle was EPIC!!!

I really loved this book. Nalini Singh is an amazing writer and her take on angels and vampires is unique and magnificently done. This series has excellent world-building, fantastic characters, passionate romance and lots of humorous moments. A definite must read for all UF, PNR and romance fans!

This book was so amazing, I was actually sad when it ended because I wanted to read more.

The relationship between Elena and Raphael just keep getting better, and it really is pretty amazing to see how they settle their differences, and how they value their relationship. We actually learn more of Elena's dad, which made me sympathise with him, although just a little. We also see more of Aodhan and Illium, whom I just love. I really hope each of them get their own book too, as well as Venom:).

If you love paranormal romance, this series is a must read.

Guild Hunter novels are always so intense they cause me to lose sleep and stress out about a happy ending. This series, folks, is urban fantasy at its finest. Throughout the story, I couldn't get enough of Elena and Raphael and Illium, but I was also thrilled to get to know a few of the other members of The Seven better. Naasir and Aodhan both have significantly larger parts in this book than in any of the previous ones and their character development is superb. I'm already speculating about the relationship between illium and Aodhan, and what the heck is Naasir anyway? It was fab getting to see Honor and Dmitri again (and especially to hear her commentary on his, ah, skills), as well as newly-in-love spymaster Jason.

The action in this book is beyond intense and the last 30 pages just about killed me, my heart was racing so fast the entire time. Ms. Singh really amped up the danger level for ALL the characters in this one and held off on revealing the big development until right at the end. It made me crazy and jittery and glued to the pages! The story also wrapped up nicely after the nearly-traumatic ending, so there's enough time to come down from the ledge and take a safe breath again, get our proverbial feet under us before we have to wait another many months for the next installment. I want to avoid spoilers as much as possible but I will say this...

No matter what it feels like while reading the final chapter of this book, take comfort in knowing that it does NOT have a cliffhanger ending and it is totally worth the ride! I'm both glad it's over and impatiently awaiting the next chapter in this scintillating and addicting universe! Long live the Guild Hunter series!! This series, and Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling world, might as well be the raison d'etre for the urban fantasy genre! Here are some fun quotes to send you off with...

Trying to keep her wings from trailing in the crap, [Elena] took a step inside... and a rat as big as a goddamn cat scurried over her boot.
Biting back her instinctive scream, she glared at Ransom - who was very conspicuously not grinning. "You couldn't warn me?"
"You're a tough-ass Hunter who gets naked with a freaking archangel, has a miniature flamethrower - which, by the way, you should leave to me in your will - and a crossbow, all within easy reach." His cheeks creased, eyes glinting. Rats quiver at your presence."

Raphael held her gaze. "Eternity would mean nothing without you. For no power on this earth would I trade my Elena."

"Narrow, but we can get in if we angle our bodies."
"I'm the Hunter," Elena reminded [Raphael]. "I should go first."
"Of course you may go first. When I am dead."

Archangel's Legion starts out as a typical day in New York City until chaos begins when Angels start falling from the sky. Then Vampires start dying from a disease they should be immune to. Guild Hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael know they must get to the bottom of this as fast as possible to save their city--all while appearing like their forces haven't been weakened. Many of the Angels were severely damaged and it could take months for them to heal. Guild Hunters and Raphael's Seven join forces to find out who the ominous force is behind the devastation that is threatening their city. Over the course of the story, secrets are revealed, bonds are tested, love is strengthened, and alliances are formed. With war on the horizon, will they be able to save their city and survive the dark, powerful, and relentless force that wants ultimate power?

"We fall, we fall together."

Nalini Singh's writing is like fine wine. It just gets better with age. This series revolves around Raphael and Elena, who are one of my favorite couples in this genre. And the majority of this story focuses on the already prominent relationship between them. There is something so incredibly heady and primal about their relationship. They have an unbreakable bond that continues to strengthen with each installment. This is a solid couple that is 100% in love with one another and will sacrifice themselves for the other. I don't think either one could or willingly survive without the other. Elena helps bring out Raphael's human side, while Raphael influences Elena to become a stronger Angel and Consort. I really enjoyed seeing Elena come into her own as the consort in this installment. She really steps up as the compassionate and strong consort the angels can look up to and find solace. But these two are still trying to find their footing with one another. They both have strong personalities that tend to clash and, while they do bring out the best in each other, they can also bring out the worse.

Elena is a warrior hunter used to taking care of herself. She's fiercely stubborn and hates showing her vulnerabilities. She continues to struggle with the nightmares from her past and issues with her father. Relying on Raphael proves to be a challenge. But she is coming to emotional terms that she is still considered a baby angel in their world, even though she is still a bad ass hunter, and learns to lean more on Raphael for strength and support. And, while Raphael is her equal in many ways, he's still the powerful, almost omnipotent, Archangel that has lived many lifetimes. It's a challenge for him to understand Elena's human side that has a soft heart for all species. But every day he grows and changes as he learns more about humanity from Elena. Elena might possibly be his weakness, but this weakness works in his favor.

We are shown in this installment how different they are personality-wise as they grapple with compromise and crossing lines on certain things. They grow frustrated and angry with one another at times, which made for some molten hot angry sex scenes that were raw and passionate. But, when they made love, it was sensual and lovely. Raphael and Elena continue to leave me breathless with their achingly beautiful words, sensual touches and kisses, loyalty, and shining love they have for one another. But no matter how often they might not see eye to eye on certain matters, they always find a way to make it work as they learn from one another. They are the perfect balance that makes each other whole.

My favorite secondary characters include Raphael's Seven: Dmitri, Aodhan, Galen, Illium, Jason, Naasir, and Venom. They are all incredibly intriguing with their dark secrets. They are powerful, unique, beautifully sexy, and always loyal to their sire, Raphael. I was stoked to get plenty of page time with my favorite warrior, Illium. I love that blue angel Elena calls Bluebell. My new favorite angel is Aodhan. There is one scene in particular that had my heart in my throat between Aodhan and Illium. I'm always mystified by these magnificent warriors Singh has created. We've already gotten Dimitri and Jason's stories. I really hope we get the other five of the Seven.

Archangel's Legion was an emotionally charged and intensely brilliant story that had me staying up late devouring it. It's full of gripping action, suspense, mystery, intrigue, romance, wickedly sexy angels and vampires, kick ass hunters, and the world building is extremely well-developed. Nalini Singh is a master storyteller when it comes to spinning captivating stories with uniquely flawed and vibrant characters. The writing is rich in description and eloquent. I love the little twist at the end of this story that has me curious to see where Singh is taking that little piece of the storyline. Archangel's Legion has easily reached the top of my list as one of the best paranormal romances I've read this year. I'm a total fan-girl when it comes to the Guild Hunter series and can't recommend it enough. Though I do recommend starting with book one, Angel's Blood. You won't be disappointed.

1. Montgomery. I could seriously use him in my life, not that I could afford him. I'll have to think of something.

2. Raphael's sense of humor is growing, good thing too, that man is too serious for his own good.

3. Sparkle and Bluebell. They are just precious. I adore them to death, they are so adorable.

4. Naasir. This guy seriously cracks me up, he might be my new favourite vampire(?).

5. Elena is growing into her big Consort shoes, doing a pretty impressive job. She's earning respect not only from Raphael's men, but from other archangels too.

6. And last, but not least: the Battle over New York. Damn! That was just wow. Can I say that again? Wow!

That bitch better stay down!

There's also an elusive power that threatens to overtake Raphael, Elena's grounding of him the only thing bringing him back from the brink.
Raphael is evolving but it might not be fast enough to turn the tide of war to their advantage.
I also loved the inclusion of the Legion and can't wait to learn more about these strange new additions.
It really brought an extra mysterious layer to everything.
Elena and Raphael are closer than ever but are still hitting slight stumbling blocks along the way.
Their make-up antics after these episodes were super intense and very hot these two have so much chemistry.

We get to dig deeper into certain characters and new players were added.
I'm sure that Tasha is going to pop up again somewhere in the future that angel has troublemaker written all over her at least Michaela is transparent in her games Tasha hides behind a pleasant persona, hiding her true intentions.
I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes next so many possibilities.
This series is such a real roller coaster ride and is one of my favourites.

What can I say about this book without spoiling it? When Aly told me that this one was as good as Angels' Blood I wasn't so optimistic but this one was quite possibly better. I think this is officially my new favorite in the series and that says a lot since I absolutely LOVE the first one.

In this book Raphael and Elena(and the New York angels in general) don't seem to be able to catch a break. Danger after danger seem to threaten their lives and peace. When angels start falling from the sky and vamps to die from a mysterious disease when they should have been immune to any kind of virus our favorite couple knows they are in trouble. What happens next is in one word Epic. Nalini Singh managed to twist the story again and again without making you a mess, trying to figure out what happened.

The very best thing in this book was the dynamics in Raphael's and Elena's relationship. Since the beginning of their entanglement Raphael always seemed to be the one making the decisions, the one with all the cards. In AL we finally see a true partnership. He asks for her opinion, capitulates to some of her wishes, includes her in the decisions. It was great to read this.

Elena also grows up during the book a lot. Her headstrong ways don't change much but she begins to realise that in a world ruled by politics sometimes you need to think before you act. Btw I found really cute the fact that Elena was jealous. We have seen her get a pissy eye with Michaela but it never was exactly jealousy, she is just a bitch and Elena hates her but isn't really jealous of her and Raphael. Actually seeing Elena jealous was fun.

The other past of the book that I loved was Aodhan. He is rapidly rising in my list of favorites in the series. For now he is up there with Ilium, Venom and Naasir, because I really can't choose between them. I wanted his book to be the next, instead I get Ash and Javier. I have to admit that although I want to know what happens with them I'd have prefered it to be a novella instead of a full length book.

(view spoiler)[I can't wait to see what the Primary will evolve into after the Legion's people separate. God, what a twist. I know we'll be seeing more of him. (hide spoiler)]

Can't wait for what Nalini has in mind for us next.

I had two points I wanted to mention after my re-read. I even had them written down. Too bad I wrote them on a post-it that I lost. I really don't remember page numbers or what exactly it was that I wanted to include.

I know it wasn't negative though...:P

Mindy Lou's Book Review
I had thought book 5 lacked a bit of action and let's just say, book 6 made up for that. That extra action at the end just made me love this couple even more. The love that Raphael and Elena have for each other is really felt on the pages. My favorite thing to read about is a couple who are totally devoted to each other and won't allow anyone or anything to come in between them. You get that with these two. I also like that with this being book 6, I'm in no way bored with this series. It's still I had thought book 5 lacked a bit of action and let's just say, book 6 made up for that. Original Review

It's no secret that I've become a bit of a Nalini Singh fan girl since I discovered the Guild Hunter series, I'm slowly working my way through her Psy-Changeling books too and really enjoying them but Raphael and Elena will always have a special place in my heart. Because I'm such a huge fan I always have very high expectations when I pick up a new Nalini Singh book and I'm always slightly nervous that I've built the series up so much in my memory that it can't possibly live up to them. Thankfully NS never fails to not just meet but completely surpass my expectations though and with every single book she just makes me love her writing more.

It's been a while since we had a book where Raphael and Elena were the main players and as much as I've enjoyed getting to know some of the other characters in the series I was incredibly excited to go back to my favourites. I adore everything about this couple, the way they have changed and grown together throughout the series has been incredible to watch. They still have their issues but I love that they always put each other first, they are aware of their own insecurities and personal issues, they know each other's triggers and most importantly they are willing to put in the effort needed to make a success of their relationship. They don't always agree with each other but they talk things through and even Raphael has learnt to compromise in certain situations. Elena and Raphael are both so much stronger together than they ever could be apart and their relationship is incredibly swoon worthy. I honestly think I could read 100 different books about them and not get bored!

As if spending time with Raphael and Elena wasn't enough we also get some incredibly poignant moments between Illium and Aodhan, ones that will bring happy tears to your eyes and make you even more desperate to read their stories. I'm also incredibly curious about Naasir after getting to know a bit more about him. All of Raphael's seven have a major part to play in this one along with Elena's fellow Guild Hunters so we get to catch up with a lot of familiar faces - I have no idea how Nalini Singh manages to pack so much into her stories but she does it like an expert. There are some epic fight scenes that are described so well it's almost like watching a movie (boy would I love to see this series on the big screen!) and the action is pretty much non-stop throughout.

I really don't want to say much about the plot because I think you're much better off going in knowing as little as possible to make the most of the experience. What I will say is that Archangel's Legion is a completely and utterly addictive read, it will break your heart, it will make you laugh out loud, you'll be shocked, horrified, angry and upset one minute then ecstatically happy and swooning the next. One thing you won't be able to do is put the book down for a single second so clear your diary before you start reading! This book is a game changer in terms of the series, it opens up so many possibilities that I can't even guess at where Nalini Singh is planning on taking us next but I do know it'll be one hell of an adventure. I think I'd have to say that Archangel's Legion is now my favourite instalment of the series and that's saying something considering how much I've loved the previous books. I honestly can't recommend this series highly enough to paranormal romance and urban fantasy fans, it really is essential reading!

2nd Read

I'd forgotten so much about what happened in this book, there's just so many awesome things going on and I loved being back with Elena and Raphael. As much as I've enjoyed seeing more of the world and getting to know some of the secondary characters I just love spending time with these two and I really enjoy seeing the progression in their relationship. They both have to work at opening up with each other and putting their pasts behind them so things aren't perfect between them but they trust each other implicitly and they understand each other better than they understand themselves half the time.

It's the moments between Aodhan and Illium that really made me melt though, I've shipped those two for such a long time now but I'm seeing lots more hints of a potential relationship between them this time around than I ever did before. I'm not sure if it's just wishful thinking but I'm going to be very disappointed if they end up with other people LOL.

I loved this series from the very first book but I'm enjoying it even more the second time around and I can't wait to reread the rest!

Amazing! Absolutely blew my mind!

Every time I read one of her books, I'm constantly struck by Nalini's Singh capability in totally capturing your attention with the story that she weaves! I love it, absolutely adore her writing.
The world she'd built in Guild Hunter series is unforgettable.
She's one of the authors I follow, hopping she'll release new books.

This book was.. huh.. I'm actually a little bit speechless after everything that I just read. Raw emotions still fights within me. Goddammit

This book was.. huh.. I'm actually a little bit speechless after everything that I just read. Raw emotions still fights within me. Goddammit I was scared for a minute there.. But worry not my dear fellow readers. The ending was epic and beautiful. And it was totally worth the wait of my paperback to arrive. I'm usually less patient and just buy a kindle version. But to really touch what she wrote was beyond ecstatic!

So do us all a favor and read this series if you haven't yet. No, that came out wrong. Do Yourself a favor and READ THIS SERIES!
Cause it's like a day at the spa! Her writing takes you to a whole new level of ecstasy!
After so many poorly written books that I've read, it's a relaxation beyond all. I've noticed this some time ago, when I was reading Psy-Changeling series back to back. No matter how intense the action, or how many events went wrong in the book, I was still pleased. The writing is that good!

enough of my rambling.

Go, GO! Go read Archangel's Legion!

Peace,
A.

Queen of Paranormal Romance, Nalini Singh returns to the Guild Hunter series with Elena and Raphael. The sole reason why I fell in love with this series in the first place was because of this couple. I loved Raphael as a hero because he was this god-like creature whose power is unparalleled in the world he has created. But in the first book, we saw him succumb to a more human emotion that makes him more endearing and real: love.

Raphael undergoes a few changes in this latest installment. When birds and angels begin to drop from the sky for the duration of five horrific minutes, New York is put into a state of panic as they try to find out what happened and deal with the number of deaths this has caused. Elena, with the help of her friends, Ransom, Sara and even Deacon try to find out what it is that has caused what they call The Falling.

The threat becomes more dire when Raphael bears an unidentified mark on his face that is slowly spreading. Could it be linked to the infection that is trolling the city? Furthermore, the all-powerful Raphael is hearing voices in his sleep, a symptom of madness that his father once had as well. Who are the voices he hears and does this mean that the Archangel of New York is swirling into madness?

Elena's character has always been relatable in this series, but I feel that is amplified more in this book. We've learned of her tragic past and how Slater ruined her life and took those of her mother and sisters. But this time, we get more detail about the event and Elena's reactions to that kind of loss. We also see her relationship with her father and how grief still remains as a heavy blanket over them even years later.

The politics once again come into play. With Lijuan and her army becoming a threat again and Raphael's mother, Caliane stirring up more trouble when she declares that there will never be easiness between her and Lijuan, tension mounts until the threat of war soon becomes an issue.

What I love about this series is the lush descriptions that paint out the whole scenery in my mind. This world in my mind is so clear and vivid because of Singh's attention to detail. While not my favorite of Elena and Raphael's books, ARCHANGEL'S LEGION is a solid installment to the series. It addresses the darkest elements of Elena and Raphael's most greatest fears and tackles them, making for incredible character development and just a wonderful story.

If you haven't already read this series, then I highly suggest you do. It still remains as one of my favorites.

And there's a title!!!

ARCHANGEL'S LEGION... Sounds good to me ;)

 photo wantit.gif

My prediction:

There will be a war between two Archangels, and Raphael's legion of loyal vampires and angels will fight the enemy - maybe Lijuan or a new and exciting threat.

Attention:

This was merely a prediction of a crazy GH fan who can't wait to read more about one of her favourite couples (Raphael and Elena, of course). So please mind the possible mistakes and don't see this as a true report of the book's content. Thank you

Update 4/10/2013

So. My prediction wasn't very good, was it?

BLURB:

Nalini Singh, the New York Times bestselling "alpha author of paranormal romance" (Booklist) returns to an immortal world of violent passion and lethal power…on the brink of a deadly archangelic war.

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force.

Vampires are dying impossibly of disease.

Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael's Tower under siege by enemy archangels.

Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York…and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same…
